SummaryOn May 30, 2025, NHTSA published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) proposing to amend Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 204, Steering Control Rearward Displacement, so that it no longer applies to vehicles certified to the frontal barrier crash protection requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, Occupant Crash Protection. The agency received one comment that supported the proposed changes to FMVSS No. 204. In addition, the commenter suggested additional amendments to remove obsolete regulatory text. NHTSA is adopting the proposed changes and the additional amendments suggested by the commenter.
